This guide is for Zemismart IR controllers, including Matter WiFi IR thermostat and IR remote controller products.
If infrared learning or device control does not work as expected, please check the points below before opening a support topic.
1. Confirm the IR controller has line of sight
IR signals need a clear path. Place the Zemismart IR controller in the same room as the air conditioner, TV, fan, or other appliance. Avoid cabinets, walls, and large objects between the controller and the appliance.
2. Check distance and direction
For testing, place the IR controller close to the appliance first. A distance of 1 to 3 meters is usually better for setup. After control works, you can adjust the final position.
3. Try the built-in remote library first
If your app offers a device brand or model library, try matching from the library before manual learning. This is usually more stable than learning every button one by one.
4. When using learning mode
Hold the original remote close to the IR controller. Press the button once clearly and wait for the app response. Avoid long pressing or pressing several buttons quickly.
5. Check the original remote type
Most common IR remotes are supported. Some RF remotes, Bluetooth remotes, or proprietary remotes cannot be learned by an IR controller. If the original remote does not need line of sight, it may not be infrared.
6. For air conditioners
Many AC remotes send a full state command instead of a simple single button command. If temperature, mode, fan speed, or power status looks wrong, try using the AC brand library or recreate the remote profile.
7. Check network and platform status
Make sure the IR controller is online in the app. If you use Matter, Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, Home Assistant, or Homey, test basic control in the main app first, then test the third-party platform.
8. What to include if you still need help
Please create a topic in the IR Controllers category and include:
- Zemismart product model
- Appliance brand and model
- App or platform used
- Connection type, such as WiFi or Matter
- Firmware version if available
- Whether the issue is learning, control, schedule, automation, or platform sync
- Photos or screenshots of the setup page if possible
These details help us route your case faster and improve future compatibility notes.
